You wouldn't try to store water in a sieve so why keep trying to heat and air condition a building that is leaky. If you want to install alternative energy-equipment, such as a geothermal ground source heat pump, solar PV or wind, reducing a building's energy demand for heating and cooling reduces the size and cost of the equipment needed. You might even produce excess energy to share with others while making a positive contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Dennis Crook, originally a union master carpenter and homebuilder, began researching designs and methods that reduce a building's energy demands shortly after the “other” energy crisis of the 1970's.
In the mid-1990's Dennis' and Siti Crook's dedication to building energy efficiency lead them to accept invitations from the University of Wale's European Business Management School. Together with their family, they moved to the United Kingdom. While studying at the University of Wales, Dennis completed a research survey of the United Kingdom's green housing market learning the difference between “green” practices in the UK and the USA.
Dennis is a speaker and panelist on university and municipal conferences on greenhouse gas reduction, global warming, sustainability and energy efficiency.
In 2002, Dennis and Siti Crook received a patent for MaqCrete, the first cement-type structural building material that is energy efficient and completely recyclable.
